Can I add costs on top of the account balance to cover my fees for collections?
State and Federal laws dictate what fees can and cannot be added to the original principal amount of the debt. At minimum, a signed agreement must clearly state what will be added if the account requires further collection action. Then, in most states, the fee must be "reasonable".
